The first two pictures are of the queen. As you can clearly see, she is much different that the worker bees. She is an amazing creature that controls the hive through her pheromones. The rest of the photos where shot in May 2005. It was incredibly rainy then, and the bees were cooped up inside with nothing to do. They did what they do best, build comb, although not the kind we beekeepers like to see. They built were way too many queen cells and burr comb. Most of this I cut away in anticipation of the hive swarming, and it worked; they did not swarm. |
